How to convert videos into DVIX or XVID video.avis?

Someone sent me a video and i need to put it on the MP4, but it doesn’t work since it only accepts DVIX or XVID video .avis.
Does anyone know a program or something to convert in one of that?

If this helps, the file i need to convert is ended with a .avi, but it doesn’t works on the MP4.
I sorta suck at computers, so details would be nice.
