Why does my computer keep crashing while converting AVIs?

mr. smith asked:

I’m now using convertxtoDVD and I’ve tried a host of other programs all resulting with my computer freezing midway through. If you guys could help me figure out what the problem(s) is I’d really appreciate it. I realize that with conversions of this sort there could be tons of potential problems so the more posts/advice the better.
